How To Make Work From Home Productive

Do you Remember? There was a time when we all thought how easier it would be if we didn’t have to get up and go to work each day. How cool would it be to work from home! 3 months in it and we all realized we should be careful what we wish for. It was all fun and games in the beginning but not anymore. Work-life balance is falling apart, household chores never seem to end and there’s no track of day and time during this pandemic.

We don’t know how long this can last or what new turn this might take. Although the hopes of lifting the lockdown are floating everywhere, we must not get too excited. So, here are a few tips to make peace with work from home.

   1. Set a routine

If your sleep cycle has gone for a toss in this lockdown, don’t stress. We are sailing in the same boat. But this has to change now. Prepare a routine and a schedule for your day, a night before, and stick to it, no matter what. Start working early in the morning so that you have enough time for your chores and for yourself at the end of the day. A routine will keep you on your toes and most of the things will function seamlessly.

Yes, there are some of us who hate ‘the routine’ and some were already stuck in it before the pandemic as well. But this tiny bit can help in the long run as we are unsure of what new turn this lockdown might take.

    2. Do basic exercise

Not being allowed to step out is no reason to skip working out. Your body must always be active as much as possible. Although the trouble of commuting is replaced by house chores, your body still doesn’t physically function as much as before. So spare some time to exercise & keep your body healthy and active. Sitting in one place all day is both physically and mentally strenuous. Some stretching and yoga might just make it easier.

And let’s look at it this way if you work out you will get tired, if you get tired you’ll sleep early, if you sleep early, you wake up early and hence you can start your day early which will help you stick to the routine.

   3. Set a workspace

Customize your workstation as you like it. Add some nice stationeries, some plants, a lamp or a white paper on the wall. Find the cosiest and most comfortable place in your house with a good view or a breezy corner to keep your mind cool. Get your laptop, your favorite chair or bean bag, a cup of coffee or tea and you are good to go. Lazing in your bed under the sheets will not help you get any work done. So, create a productive workspace for you to get you going.

   4. Ditch the pajamas

Pajamas are Godsend, agreed. But your favorite clothes in your wardrobe are dying to get out. It’s rightfully said you feel good if you look good. If you want to have a normal workday, full of productivity, you have got to dress for it. Your choice of clothes will set the right mood for you to work.

These are some of the things to get you closest to your normal days while working from home. But what’s important to know is that this sure is a hard time for us all and never shy away from taking a break to calm your mind or give a change to your line of thoughts. And as crucial as it is to be productive, binge-watching your favorite series or snacking now & then is essential too in this pandemic and don’t let anybody tell you otherwise.

At the risk of sounding cliche, I would still commit that it's fascinating how words on digital platforms can turn things around on so many levels. The digital world is taken by storm each day with something new. I am glad that as a content writer I get to contribute to it to some extent.
